Game Based Design – Gamification beyond Simulations and "Serious Games"

Sure, "learning by playing" does work. This is why lecturers and course designers use "Serious Games" in their programmes.

Yet, approaching "learning" like a game designer has more to offer than only altering learning content to make it more game-like.

This webinar takes a closer look at "structural gamification" – the application of game design thinking in the process of learning itself.

Wolfgang Rathert will introduce you to some of the underlying psychological mechanisms that explain why Game Based Design is so effective and will show three simple frameworks that explain why and how to apply them to your course design – from individual exercises or lectures to larger time scales or whole curricula.

Two additional bonuses for you:

  1. Structural gamification can often be applied with little or no material resources, as it does not require you to translate your content into a game that needed to be produced. It DOES however require some creative thinking and a corresponding investment in brainpower.
  2. The scope of structural gamification is by no means limited to the process of "learning". Once you grasp the idea, you can easily apply it as a lens to design any operational process in any domain that requires either compliance or engagement of an audience – from marketing or leadership to personal habit building to educating your teenage kids...
